Buy this radio/GPS, or one like it with the removable memory cards. (Used a Rino 120 for a while before). Well made and the battery life is great. Great unit if you don't need night vision compatibility. I rate this a five as it does very well for hiking and navigating around. Just wish the newer model with cards had come out sooner, would have liked that feature, and not up for buying a newer one just for that option.yet.
Great for sending location and works with legacy Rino's as well. Color screen is easy on the eyes, larger than the older model. This charging cable should have been a one piece unit. Can use mine for several days on a charge or longer if I turn it on only when needed. Still uses Motorola accessories and has great features. Bought after using a Rino 120 for several years.
Downside is the battery charger connector seems easy to detach from the cable. Large memory capacity allows me to load up many points and maps.
did not come with any maps but does have the basic important lines for the states and main highways. you must buy them and they can be quite pricey. Love this item and will use it in the near future camping and it even worked while I was in Iraq. Would recomend this but ensure that you know that you do not get any cool maps with this.
One star, no soup for you. But if the thing is going to lose my way-points, how can I recommend it to anyone. If I was in an emergency, and needed to find my way back, and this thing turns off. When I turned it back on, my route was erased. Lost way-points. So, do as you like, just know I wouldn't recommend you having this 'adventurer attitude' that you can go in the woods with it and always find your way back, cause you wont if you lose your way-points or trails. So in conclusion, as for being rugged, its a 5-star.
For great features, 5-stars, awesome color screen, 5-stars yet again. And no, I didn't press the power button. After 30 way-points, off it goes. i'll be in a pickle, right.I know what you're thinking 'cause I think it as well when I read these reviews, "This guy is an idiot, he's hitting the power button." Well, I was in the Army, in charge of the way-points on the Force XXI Battle Command system in iraq. Geesh. So, I returned it, got another one. I bought this, went on a hike, and after 30 way-points, it shut off.
A week later, I got the second one, went on a hike, and poof. I know how to use these things.
They are thrilled with the product and found it wonderfully easy to use and incredibly accurate. Everyone is happy. I purchased the Garmin 530 GPS for my husband, son, and son-in-law in hopes of keeping them safe and connected during their hunting adventures in the great north woods of Maine. This product helped them hunt more efficiently (their goal) and with greater safety (my goal) and made the end of the day rendezvous a breeze.
/ Jacob The battery life was also good. Very nice tool for a hiker.Reception was great. The compass and the altimeter added really nice performance. Great product.
